"The
water supply at Higher Clough came down a ladder drain into a pond then
into a row of three troughs in the yard and then down into a trough at
the back of the house. It was then available for human consumption after
the cows had had their fill. I can remember a time at Higher Clough when
there was no water in the house. you used to have to go on with a bucket
for drinking water and carry it from the river which was a good way
away. I still don’t waste water." (L. Blackwell)
