"Daywork Barn was the
out-barn for Bridge House Farm. It was set in a bit of a croft of just
over an acre. Apparently two of the Irish men who came over for
hay-making each year got to arguing over how much a man could mow in a
day with a scythe. One of them bet he could mow that croft in a day
which he then did... and then dropped down dead from exhaustion that
night. That's how the barn got it's name." (A.
Walmsley)
